Sweetest Feature: The countdown to midnight brought about the best in all of the guest. The party really got started and everyone celebrated. It was the sweetest way to bring in the new year.

The South Coast Winery is nestled approximately 2 hours outside of Los Angeles and is an organic oasis. The wine country was a beautiful back drop to the amazing day that took place.

New Year's SWAG!

New Year's Eve was surely epic for me. I can honestly say that I ended and began my year in the best way possible: working for Sugar and Spice Event Design. With my trusty assistant, Tiffany Swinson (cater of Something Good 2 Eat), we took the South Coast Winery by storm.

Prep work for the wedding: personalized water bottles for the Robinson Wedding weekend.

The beautiful couples celebrating their nuptials inside the Gold Room.

We were able to set up, organize and execute and winery wedding that is sure to go down in the books as one of my most festive affairs. Here are some shots from behind the scenes. Pictures are to follow!

The countdown is ticking till New Year's!

Candy bags were the favor for the guest to enjoy a sweet beginning to the year. We personalized glass flutes for the couple toast to the new year.

Personal touches are the key to successful event.

The Bride and Groom's first dance was amazing. They danced everything from salsa, contemporary to a 2 step. They even ended the night with a flash mob with the bridal party and guest.

The clock struck 12:00 am for New Year's and the crowd went wild. Guest danced the night away and Sugar and Spice smiled in sweetness. My assistant and I even had to join in the festivities. We cut a little rug, while collecting and cleaning.

A sweet note left for an amazing couple.

My New Year's Resolution... It's For You!

It's a new year and all types of resolutions are made in hopes of a new you: work the business harder, workout, eat better, be smarter, etc, etc, etc. Have we yet thought about how to add to the life of others? What resolutions do you have that better others?

So many years, I looked and try to change myself, yet how does that add to the universe and the lives of others. This year, I want to better others! This may include better health for me, so that I can fight for others, or even cook a healthy meal for someone else. I can benefit from that. Yet, I want my hand to extend farther. I want to pray for other's more, smile at others more, give out more compliments, help others, inspire change and motivation in others.

This can benefit business as well. I can meet with other business owners to encourage them: thus bettering the industry. I can call my brides more, send out a thank you card to my vendors, give more business referrals, and smile and my clients more.

This will be my mantra this year: helping others, which thereby helps myself. Small steps that pay it forward! Will you take this challenge with me?

Any of my friends know that I am completely enamored with the "Twilight" Series. Though I have yet to see the "Breaking Dawn" movie, I was absolutely excited to get a sneak peek of the wedding dress that Bella is to wear for the movie. The gown was design by Carolina Herrera and is embellished with over 160 buttons. It is sure to be the rage of next season! I can't wait to get in those seats and enjoy the show!

Today... I whipped out my boots for the first time and trampled in the day through the puddles on the wet concrete. It dawned on my in that very moment, that fall is already here. 2011 is already wrapping up and the holidays will be here before you know it. The older I get, the more I realize how much I love fall. The gentle touch that wipes away heat-stroked summer before barreling us into relentless winter (which in LA is simple El Nino rain storms). None the less, I am always inspired by this time of the year. It is when we slow our pace and cuddle up near the fire. I cant wait to boil up the first cup of cocoa!

Today... think about what makes you happy! Okay, I am sure you have a list full of things that make you happy despite your situation. Yet, I want you to think, what do you think will make you happy in the long run? What are you doing to work for your long term happiness? Are you investing in your children, mate, friends, new business?

All I can say is that I do make sure that I am constantly healing my soul with laughs from my friends and colleagues. In most situations alternatively, when I am working my hardest, I am placing down the keys to my life long happiness. When I am working for Sugar & Spice, I know I am setting myself up for success and happiness in the long run. What is that one thing you work on that is difficult but makes you happy? It is that which will lead to a happiness that long lasting in the future... now go and pursue it!

Bags Pack and Ready to LOVE...

Had to share the amazing pictures of Portia and Errol on their engagement shoot at LA's Union Station. The couple look amazing as they channel their inner vintage glam! The shots are absolutely amazing!

The couple met on an online dating sight and after numerous text messages, 6 dates and a homemade peach cobbler to seal the deal - the two were a couple. In December of 2010, Errol popped the question on a weekend get-away to Palm Springs. The couple looks forward to their nuptials on October 1st of this year!

It was a pretty quick turn around with this client for sure: 3 weeks to be exact. Though the time was short with Secarra and Jermell, the work with them was a pleasure and amazing. The bride did a wonderful job planning and designing their special day. All the couple needed was a little Sugar and Spice to add that special touches to ensure her day went smoothly. I enjoyed getting to know the couple, after knowing the bride through our sorority ties. What can be said is that in the short time of working with the couple, the longevity of their love surely shined through. I was happy to be along for the short enthraling ride.

Saw this feature and thought it was cool. Though things are a bit under construction, I wanted to highlight this great blog/magazine. Jaquiline and her Husband, Chike started a great magazine that is geared toward couples of color. This wonderful couple began in the industry as wedding photographers and then sought out the magazine industry. The couple were not experienced in the magazine scene, but did their research to launch this company. They will be selling their magazines in places like the US, UK and Nigeria. I would like to feature my upcoming couple: Ally and Anthony! I had the pleasure of meeting them during my college career, and was nothing but excited when they asked me to do their wedding.
They didn't know each other's name, but these two met in the quad of San Francisco State University. After some electronic back and forth, they met up for a late night dinner days later. They ended up talking the night away. Even though they where kicked out of the restaurant at closing, their love opened up and grew from there. Their unbreakable love has followed them from San Francisco to Afganistan and back. Wishing them lots of love and years together.

It's a Jungle Out There... Baby Style

When I heard Chris and Renee where having a baby, I knew that the Greenhill/Hill Family would pull out all the stops. And of course, I wasnt disappointed. Wanda and Erin, close friends of mine, made sure that the baby Khaliel was brought in with style. I was assigned the only take of creating the diaper cake (one of my favs I have created to date). Yet my diaper cake pales is the presence of this amazing Monkey themed shower. Wanda, the original hostess diva/grandma, spared no detail in transforming a wonderful home into a wild jungle!

I accomplished the wonderful feet of snapping a shot of the mother to be!

Timeless Love Caputred in One Moment...

Even though I was not there for the sweetness, I had to share these amazing pics of Queenie and her Beau, Darrell. I saw these pics online and had to share the amazing love these two shared on the quaint union together. The love in their eyes was a true inspiration. In talking to her about their intimate day, the best part that she told me about doing it small and simple was that she remembered every part.

Decorating Joys and Spreading Empowerment

I look at this picture and think... wow, I was really tired. That day involved late nights of fines details and early morning errands. Yet it makes me feel over-joyed to see the sincere smile on my face. As is glare and the puffy eyes and gleaming braces I ponder the fact that I am so lucky to do what I love. The challenge of owning a business is a very daunting one. It is filled with late nights, early morning, filled emails, deadlines, and sore feet. But to be completely honest, it is the most amazing experience to have ever encountered.

I am hopelessly in love with the ability to add sweetness to any event. After almost 3 years of service, I still tear up at every wedding and smile at the surprise of every shower. I feel fuzzies during every toast and I am still moved by every bride and grooms first dance. It is a pleasure to serve my clients because I get the same joy inside that money could not buy. My gratefulness is all I take with me on this business journey, as I forge onward and upward to build a empire that decorates joys and spreads empowerment: one event and client at a time.

Make the Write Dreams

I keep a book around me at all times. You never know when inspiration hits. And when it does, I wanna be ready for it. Inspiration is really the closest we get to God, I feel. It is the closest we feel to tangibly engaging and doing our purpose. I try to capture those moments in words and digest the enormity of walking in the steps where I should be. These scripture guide my vision and inspire me to document the greatness that has been revealed, but has yet to manifest!

It is my hope that as we all enjoy the beauty of making beautiful things, that we engage in the business of being beautiful people. All reception floral arrangements were done by Sugar and Spice Event Design. The design was a collaboration between my company and the bride's amazing brother, Ronald Owens.

The wish tree was a great addition to the ceremony. Instead of a standard sign in, the couple had patrons leave a wish for the bride and groom on the tree.

Here is a beautiful tribute to there dear aunt that they had lost earlier that year. Is was a beautiful and eye catching memorial that was simple, yet meant so much.

My dear girls were in attendance and was a great treat after all the work was done!
